Aunt Kathy's Chocolate Chip Cake

Ingredients:

1/3 c shortening
1 c sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 one-oz squares unsweetened baking chocolate, melted and cooled
1 egg
1 1/4 c sifted flour
1/2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c chocolate chips
9 walnuts
3/4 c water

Cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate. Add egg, beating well. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with 3/4 cups cold water, beating after each addition. Spread in lightly greased and floured pan. Sprinkle with chips and nuts. Bake 30-35 minutes at 350 or until springy. Cool in pan.
